Effective April 1, 2011, our new landscape company, Town Center Landscaping, will be doing our maintenance program and irrigation. As before, if you see any problems, please notify Sterling Management Company at 281-447-3388.

OUR TREES ARE HEAVILY IMPACTED BY THE DROUGHT. ATS (Arboricare Tree Service) is the company you will be seeing around the village within the next few weeks. As you have probably noticed, many of our trees have died. Those trees that are a hazard will be cut down. Where possible the trees will lay where they fall, if they are within the wooded greenbelt. This helps the ecology and provides cover for the wildlife. In a few instances, we hope to top the tree to a safe distance in order to have a WOODPECKER pole.
Kenny Robinson, owner of ATS, is a certified arborist and is making suggestions on how we can help our trees survive until the rain starts. WHILE WALKING ALONG THE TRAILS, PLEASE TAKE CARE. THESE TREES CAN FALL AT ANY TIME. WE’RE WORKING AS FAST AS WE CAN TO HAVE THEM CUT DOWN. Kenny also said that he has seen instances of seemingly healthy trees turning completely brown within a matter of a few weeks. Bottom line, this may not be the only major cut of our trees that will be done.
Be assured, that your safety is our number one concern. Kings River Trail Association will be addressing the trees along Kings Parkway and West Lake Houston Parkway.
We sent a letter to the attorneys for Pinehurst Trail Holdings advising them of the trees we identified on their property that are dead. Here is their response:
"We are in receipt of your letter dated July 25, 2011, reporting concerns of hazardous, dead trees on property owned by Pinehurst Trail Holdings, LLC ("Pinehurst"). Please provide the name and contact information of the certified arborist with whom the Kings River Trail Association ("KRTA"/"Association") has consulted on this matter, so we can make arrangements to meet them on-site. Also, please forward any written reports that the arborist may have prepared regarding this matter to my attention. In the mean time, please request that KRTA immediately advise all members of the Association to avoid such areas that are alleged to have such hazardous conditions. Additionally, please instruct KRTA to kindly remind all members that land owned by PTH is private property and not open for pedestrian or vehicular access. Thank you for your attention and cooperation in this matter."

No, it isn’t Stonehenge. We are beginning phase 2 on the esplanades reforestation and enhanced landscaping plan along West Lake Houston Parkway. Last year, we developed a Master Plan for future plantings. Incorporating boulders are part of the plan. Today we were finally able to have the boulders delivered and placed in the general area where they’ll be used. We hope to have the soil worked and a few grasses planted around these points (the end of each esplanade) soon.
Trees, roses, perennials, grasses will be planted as soon as this record breaking drought ends. Rain dances may help.

Kingwood is known for our extensive greenbelts and trails. These are nature areas and are part of our LIVABLE FOREST. Many of you who live along these trails do so because it affords you some privacy, as you don’t have any back door neighbors. We want to make it clear that if you feel the vegetation and/or limbs of the trees in this nature reserve are encroaching on your property you have the right to trim back as far as you feel is necessary, including behind your fence. We, the board, have made it a policy to not trim back this foliage as many residents have made it clear that they don’t want us to disturb the natural area.

We have drastically cut back on watering the turf grass, as MUD 151 has asked for voluntary water conservation. The turf grass is Bermuda which is a native grass. It will brown up when water is scarce, but will rebound once we get some rain. We are overbudget on water by $3525.90 for the year. The really bad news is that we had the water turned off for the winter. With the new charges for ground water conversion we need to be very careful where and when we water.
We're going to plant more native drought tolerant plants at the entrances - we just voted to allow $4500.00 for this project. No more annuals will be planted. More and more communities are planting only perennials, as we will do in the future.

Our sprinklers run only at night or during early morning hours unless our landscape company is doing a monthly check of the system. If you see any sprinklers on or notice any problems, please let us know.
If you see any vandalism taking place, please contact our Constables at 281-446-1196 or our management company. Every form of vandalism is a cost to our residents. Most of the vandalism that occurs in Kings River Village is in our parks or knocking heads off the sprinklers.
